When the earthquake struck, the worst hit were areas in North Sikkim. The recently monsoons had left the topography vulnerable to landslides that swept away several houses and in some cases, entire villages.
The Architects of Sikkim had been working in creating temporary shelters for the displaced people in these villages. PPA designed and fabricated one option of the 2 designed. This option was financed by ‘Friends at Rachna’ and, the sample was erected at the studios of Echostream.

A unit of 10′ x 10′ was designed as a multifunctional space which could be physically altered. The structural frame would be fabricated in steel bars of 1.5″ x 1.5″ bolted in place. The roofing and cladding is conceived as GCI sheets.There will be a plywood door which is the same material that will be used for infills.
